A major new business travel network has been launched in Leicester to provide local employers and their staff with a range of options for business travel and commuting. Smartgo Leicester - previously known as Smarter Travel Leicester and led by Go Travel Solutions with support from local partners - will deliver cheaper, easier and more sustainable travel programmes for member organisations in and around Leicester.
The new Smartgo Leicester programme was launched to existing and potential members on 18 September 2013 at the Highcross Management Suite in Leicester. The Smarter Travel Leicester business travel network, now Smartgo Leicester, is one of the largest in the UK with over 55 employer members representing almost 50,000 staff. Smarter Travel Leicester has been supported by many organisations including Arriva, East Midlands Trains, Highcross, Leicester City Council and Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce. In September 2013, Smartgo Stevenage will also be launched with other UK schemes set to follow.

On 16 July, the Secretary of State for Transport, Patrick McLoughlin, published “Action for Roads – a network for the 21st century”.
The paper follows the Spending Round, and provides further detail on road investment, including the announcement that the Highways Agency will become a publically owned company with six year funding certainty for capital projects and maintenance.
The package also includes an additional £500 million of capital investment for the period 2015-2020 to support the UK ultra-low emission vehicle industry, intended to support UK jobs as well as decarbonise road transport and improve air quality.
