Leicester will host a pioneering conference next year to promote cities that support cycling, walking and active lifestyles.

The Active City conference will be held at Curve from 18-20 May 2016, and will attract local, national and international delegates and speakers.

The conference is coming to the city following a proposal submitted by Leicester City Council and Leicester Shire Promotions.

The news that Leicester will host the event was announced at this year’s Active City conference, which is currently taking place in Newcastle (25-26 June).

As part of the national Catch the Bus Week campaign, Leicestershire County Council is offering one way travel for 50p on selected bus services as well as discounted Weekly tickets on the Park & Ride services to Leicester between Monday 29 June and Saturday 4 July 2015.

You can take advantage of the 50p offer by following these three simple steps:

  • Download and print out your Catch the Bus Week Vouchercatch-bus-week
  • Complete the details on the voucher
  • Hand the voucher to the driver along with 50p 

The voucher entitles one passenger to travel for 50p on a single ticket on one of the eight promotional routes between Monday 29 June and Saturday 4 July. Cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer. Voucher to be retained by driver.

  • Service 120: Coalville – Markfield – Leicester

lscFor the last two years the Learning Support Centre have taken part in the Green Impact project which is run via the National Union of Students, it’s an online workbook to document how green, environmentally friendly and sustainable your business and working spaces are.

Company representatives Joanne Hancock and Amy Leyshon recently collected the silver award and as a result of this decided to plan a Sustainability Day which will be held at their office, Phoenix Yard, Jubilee Building, 5 Upper Brown Street, Leicester, LE1 5TE on Wednesday 24th June from 10am – 4pm.

The focus of the day will be Fairtrade, sustainable companies, alternative shopping e.g. vintage and charity shops, local produce, green cleaning products and transport options. Please feel free to drop in to see us. There will also be products to purchase on the day which have been made by local artists.


A member of our team will also be present on the day so be sure to pop by!

A new courier service with green credentials has set up an office near Leicester railway station. WeGo Couriers, based in Nottingham, is expanding its services to meet a growing demand.

Challenge six - Take the Bus

All residents and businesses in Leicester can sign up free to the LeicesterShire Sustainable Travel Challenge. The website offers a range of rewards on local and national retailers simply by logging sustainable travel journeys for your business, commuting and leisure journeys. In addition, there are a range of mini-competitions taking place.

The finale of the 2014 mini-challenges is taking the bus. As always there are prizes available to those who simply log their commuting, business and leisure bus journeys. In addition, you will still be able to collect Stravel points to be redeemed at local and national retailers. These rewards are timely for the upcoming festivities.
