Leicester Castle Classic Weekend: King of the Cobbles
Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th August 2015
This year’s weekend starts with a sportive challenge linking Leicester Castle with Bosworth on Saturday followed by a triathlon starting at QEII Leicester Centre on Sunday morning.
Support races in the afternoon are followed by the Castle Classic Kermesse – ‘One of the best races in the country’ according to last year’s winner Jon Mould – the finale of British Cycling’s Elite Road Series 2015. The Castle Classic Kermesse will be filmed for broadcast on Eurosport TV.
Leicester has submitted a bid for a major programme to develop Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC) hubs.
Leicester City Council and Leicester-based sustainable travel specialist, Go Travel Solutions, have successfully progressed through the Expression of Interest stage. A full application has now been submitted to apply for a share of the £500,000 funding that the Department for Transport has made available for cities, rural areas and tourism hotspots in England, outside of London, to develop shared Electrically Assisted Pedal Cycle (EAPC) hubs.
Leicester will host a pioneering conference next year to promote cities that support cycling, walking and active lifestyles.
The Active City conference will be held at Curve from 18-20 May 2016, and will attract local, national and international delegates and speakers.
The conference is coming to the city following a proposal submitted by Leicester City Council and Leicester Shire Promotions.
The news that Leicester will host the event was announced at this year’s Active City conference, which is currently taking place in Newcastle (25-26 June).
